The Coffee Project

The Coffee Project is about connecting hand-made paper and a specific coffeehouse with a direct link. I choose only small, local coffeehouses as partners, because they represent strong connections with community and are always filled with love. The unique link is coffee from the local coffeehouse woven through the fabric of my paper. The fusion makes each limited edition of works bound to the coffeehouse and the memories within. The smell of coffee in the paper may fade over time, but the bond will remain forever.

I was inspired to begin this project after remembering all the times a cup of coffee provided warmth and comfort for me. Whether I was preparing for a particularly difficult job interview or simply talking with my mom on the phone; the one common denominator was a cup of coffee in my hand.

I started noticing how important coffee was to other people as well. For so many of us, it’s the first thing we reach for in the morning. A great cup of coffee is a science, the result of stirring together the perfect combination of ingredients warmed up to precisely the right temperature.

Just as no one’s perfect cup of coffee is quite the same, every sheet of coffee paper I create is distinctive in its own way...

The appeal of coffee paper is different for everyone …for some it’s the smell that rises from each page. For others, it’s the appearance that reminds them of their own many conversations with friends; each as unique as their own cup of coffee.

For me it’s the whole experience… the smell, the appearance, and even the varying textures that trigger the many memories of the many conversations over a cup of coffee.

The smell may lessen, and the colors may fade with time. But the essence of coffee remains in each distinct work. As so many of us have experienced while enjoying a cup of coffee, I hope this project can remind us all to remember and cherish the life’s experiences we have shared.
