“Metamorphic Journey”

Book binding is another area of art I enjoy. I made this book using a chrysalis cover constructed completely from sculpted papers. The hook was added so it could hang in the corner of a shelf or bookcase. My goal was to find a distinctive way to explain the different stages I encountered on my own personal journey using education to better myself, which ended as I graduated with a studio arts degree at age 58. The journey was a transformational one for me. I related well to the caterpillar, and the elation she must feel during the first few flaps of their wings as she begins a new life as a butterfly.
