“Kiwi”
The kiwi is by far my favorite bird. I have been sculpting, drawing, and painting them for years. I have always been intrigued by the unusual, and the kiwi definitely fits. It’s a bird that has wings but cannot fly. It has feathers, but they look like fur. It has a bill, but the bill has nostrils. Perhaps most incredibly, the kiwi has the largest egg-to-body ratio of any other bird. Think of a 120-pound woman giving birth to a 24-pound baby. This bird has been inspiring me for years.
This bird is sculpted using pulp made from cotton fibers. The box is constructed using paper that I made from sand and cheesecloth. I was experimenting and trying to get different textures.
