“Inspirational Women”

This project was created around giving life to things new and old. The stand is from an old lamp I found at a resale shop. The pattern piece and the remnant of cloth in the bird’s mouth are taken from the items my mother and mother-in-law used to make the dresses in my bridal party in 1982. The fabrics were torn from cotton cloth and dyed with cochineal and indigo dyes. The skirt is constructed from strips containing inspiring words from the important women in my life. Both the flowers and the bird are made from many different types of threads, which represent the stitching together of the love from women who have inspired me.

We all find inspiration in every stage of our life. How we choose to use this information is what counts. I purposely included women of all ages because… I value them all!
